Modular Home Batteries: Great Idea or Marketing BS?
Переглядів 12 тис.Місяць тому
About a year ago, I installed a modular Sungrow battery on my rental property: ua-cam.com/video/VYZqZEcKowk/v-deo.html Slick marketing materials put out by manufacturers claim modular batteries, like my Sungrow, are easily expandable if you need more storage. I got my installer back out to add another 3.2 kWh module to my battery to see if the installation reality matches the hype. And you can ...

Anker Solix X1 inverter comes with batteries and you can add more as and when needed. It also has a detailed monitoring system so you don't have to buy a separate one. It also works with string inverters but from what I've heard string isn't very good as it breaks down easily.

Just upgraded my original ( all I could afford at the time) 6.6 kW system to a 13.2 kW by adding s 6.6 kW system on the South facing side of my roof. So far for the first full month (June) it has added 218 extra kW which is not too shabby compared to the 418kW of the 2021 vintage 6.6 kW dystem for a total of636kW for the month. Looking forward to the best output months to see how it puts out then

Disinformation!!!!! UK Feed In Tariff for solar PV panels.. You get paid for what you generate whether or not you use it yourself. So, yes it's free motoring if you charge tour EV up from solar PV on sunny days, if you're on FIT payments.

Okay learning about all things solar the past week. So other than splurging extra dollars for top end solar panels, I think tweaking how we use it well, with smart software can make a bigger difference. So this combination, can you automate it with Amber and home assistant ?

As better technology for your money is coming, then the buying decisions is delayed. Just like in a recession, buying decisions are delayed as prices fall. Suddenly, the entire population can see that the price is affordable and the recession is over and the boom in demand that was delayed is now a rush. Particularly if V2G is a feature of new Battery Vehicles or EVs. Grid economics or it's cashflow will change. Home and building energy savings will happen. Even Nuclear Electricity will look stupid. Petroleum savings will happen as well.

Hi Finn, thank you so much for this excellent video. I recently purchased a GWM Ora EV and the same looking Type 1 to Type 2 adapter cable that you used at the Port Elliot Type 1 charging station. When I try and charge at this station it looks like it is trying to charge and then it cuts out after 2-3 seconds. Do you think it is my car. I can see on the web site that Tesla’s and a Nissan Leaf have been able to charge in recent times. Many thanks Evan

Don't lay the solar panels on your roof, stand them up, even vertical to the north. This keeps them cooler and more energy efficient by about 5%. They get more sunlight hours by facing the eastern and western sunlight. Overall performance is up to 15% more efficient and longer lasting, because hail damage is less likely.

Btw don't install any 'smart' electrical items, such as AC units, fridges, security systems, garage doors, and electrical switch boxes that can be manipulated from the grid. Solar panels usually demand a new set up of your power box that communicates with the grid. These can be used to ruin your electrical items at will and control or switch off your items remotely. It also allows power companies to charge you extra for peak hour use etc. and cause your household to use more power without your permission. Living without power grid electricity all together is possible now. Eat your food fresh, rather than storing it in a fridge until it goes bad, use low DC solar powered, self contained lighting and computer power supply, solar hot water, gravity fed tank water supply. Etc.

Solar will be charged in the near future under the excuse that money is needed to store and process the excess energy. Batteries are too expensive. Signing up for a deal with power suppliers, such as auto bank withdrawals on fees, are given an initial discount followed by over charging for services, to the rate of double that of the standard method of pay as you go billing. Don't be fooled or sucked in by apparent deals. We pay a quarter that of our neighbours by not taking up any deals. The best thing to do is, get solar water heating, minimise cooking times by using a steamer, with just enough water, using the oven with multiple items to cook, turning your water heater down to 60 degrees, adding independent solar lights and skylighting, switching everything off when away from home for days. And getting rid of useless electrical items, such as garden tools, tv, freezers. Finally double insulate your home, battens and wrap, and use low energy air con. In Qld, Grow trees that shade the house, take away metal panel fences, allow a breeze, insulate veranda roof, partially cover concrete driveways with mondo grass. Cover windows with reflective film, and have your own small generator for emergency use. Because energy companies will 'fail' when it suits political agendas.

What about water coolijg solutions ? Need net better gains though for that 5%, what’s lost ? Water costs. Elec water pump costs ? Also pool heat can be gained maybe ? Water cost can be mitigated if you have a pool ? I don’t know. Is there a good solution ?

Hey so 10kw single phase inverter limit exists. So with a solar 13.3kw oversize system and 10kw inverter, is the battery inverter size included with the battery inverter ? SP Ausnet (VIC). How does the limitation and battery component work with the inverter limit ?

Hi Finn, I opted for REC Alpha panels (370W) based on their reputation for quality. However I have these bl00dy busbar marks on my panels which has taken the luster off the REC reputation for quality in terms of my decision to pay extra for REC. You published my story on SolarQuotes regarding the issue and whilst I have a response from REC (extremely technical I might add) attempting to allay my concerns, I can't help but feel a sense of REC wiggling out of their responsibility to replace the 29 x panels in question. I bl00dy paid for the REC quality to mitigate this occurrence, they took my cash and are nowhere to be seen when I need them. Why didn't REC state that the busbar issue may occur on their panel brochure? More sub-par antics from a large Corporate. The 11 x Trina Vertex S+ 415W panels I added to my system (now 15kW) are a better buy. Given your standing in the Solar industry would have a contact at REC that I can plead my case with? Kind Regards, Tom
